RK New Tutorial
- ABOUT LEVEL ZERO: Read me first.
So, you joined RK? Well if you lose the tutorial window in RK go to TOWN, Look on the top right of your screen. On the corner of the main picture of the town you will see a quote balloon. This will get you back to the mentor's tutorial. As I said above if the mentor does not register that you did something just log out of RK and back in again.
Now, this game is all about working your way up in the world. You are a serf, a lowly beggar in rags when you start. Your goal at level zero is to save money. Make as much as you can and then level up.
You want to level up in order to:
- Buy a second field.
- Buy clothing.
- Become a butcher, baker, carpenter, miller, weaver or blacksmith. (Sorry no candle-stick maker option.)
- Be cool! There are 4 levels and also several "status" colors in game, so you want to grow in both. Make sure to fill out your "My account" section so people can promote your color level in game. You can do that as early as level zero and increase your coolness instantly, so start out early to increase your reputation with other local players.
- YOUR FIRST DAY
In RK you now start with the mentor giving you day to day tasks, such as "Come back in an hour and I will give you bread" or "Go buy me 1 bag of flour". In order to advance you should follow those instructions. This tutorial is just more comprehensive.
Eat - As level zero you do not have to eat. It's helpful, so that you don't die. If you die you may not get paid for your last job. I have not seen this confirmed yet. But if the mentor orders you to eat in the tutorial you must eat that day in order to advance.
Work - Every 22-24 hours you'll want to take a job. You don't want to waste any time, and if you're online often you can choose to work the mine in 1, 2, 6, 10 or 22 hour increments.
Trust - You will need three reputation points from other players to level. Don't be afraid. (You don't have to talk to people too much if you're not very social. You just have to get the points. Here's how! The best way to get these points is to enter the first tavern you find and sit in it. Make sure to say hello to others if people are active. If you don't want to talk just say AFK and then don't close the window. If there are no people there just click on the picture of the mug to turn it red. Now no one can get you drunk, but many people will come by to see "Who the new guy is" and they most likely will trust you. Alas, your three points.) You can also sit silently and say absolutely nothing. You have no obligation to talk to people if you don't feel like it. However, players LOVE to see new people and they will be thrilled to be able to tell you all about their town and why it is special!
Don't forget! You also have to work the church for two days to get the other two reputation points. No one can give you enough points to level. You have to work the church. It's mandatory.
Important things to know about RK
(Renaissance Kingdoms) is a "reset" game. It has recently been changed to give players more working options, but you still must eat daily (every 24 hours in the game) if you wish to remain alive. Reset occurs each day at 2:00 GMT. (Time is posted in the church information). For example, if you are in PST (-8 GMT), reset occurs from 7 – 8 pm at night. Reset changes yearly with daylight savings. If you aren't sure just ask someone in the tavern. People always know what time reset occurs. The game is not available for about 35-45 minutes during this "reset" time.- EATING
You must eat every day to survive. Look at the top of your screen. Next to your money is your “status”. If you are “fit” you only need to eat one Hunger Point (that means 1 corn). If you are “exhausted” you need to eat two Hunger Points (two corns or one bread), in order to stay at maximum health.
- FOOD: To eat click on “Me”, then “My inventory”. Click on the hand print to eat each item. Remember what I said above: if you are “fit”, you need ONLY eat one corn to stay at max health. (It will still say you are hungry, but ignore that.) To get more food on subsequent days you can buy from the market or a tavern (which are individually owned and priced). Your money is only to be used to buy food (not wine, women or fancy clothes). Do not buy any food besides corn or bread until you level. DO NOT BUY BEER.
- DON’T GET DRUNK: To enter a tavern, simply click on the name of one. If you visit the taverns, do not buy beer at all (only richer people should ever buy beer) and do not allow anyone to buy you more than 5 drinks or you may get drunk. If you are too drunk you can’t work or eat, thus keeping you poor and surly.
- JOBS
Jobs are posted all day long and you have many choices. You have three places to get work:
1. The Mine: Click "Out of Town" and "Works". Then click on the mine.
2. As a level 0, you have to work two days in the Church (as said above), but you can also work here if you can't find anything else to do OR if you need points to level to say level 2.
3. Farm jobs are in the Town Hall: Click “Job offers”. You will see a job and the skills required. If it says none, you can attempt to work it. If no one else clicks you should get the job. Check on top of your screen to see if "you are working for LadyJo".
- YOUR TOWN
Read your Town Hall’s Message and check it often. Don’t buy cheap items and then resell them higher. This is a prosecution crime.
Leveling!
When you are ready for level 1 (you have earned 5 Reputation Points & you have £90 of cash), contact the Mayor and she/he will tell you what kind of field to choose. It changes so it is best to ask before you level.- REP POINTS
You can give out two points per week. As said above, you can get 2 Reputation Points from the Church and 3 from people. The best time to trade Reputation Points is on Sunday when people get their two points.
- FORUMS
Go here: http://www.renaissancekingdoms.com/EcranPrincipal.php?l=11 Click on the first link there. In order to open any link in the forums you have to have a forum page open. Go into the Index and look for your county. You will find your county on the top right of your screen in RK. You will also see a town forum. If you are not sure ask for help.
- COLORS
Everyone's profile has a color to it. A new person is white. Someone who is attempting to use the forums and has written a profile will be promoted to yellow. There are several other colors, culminating in brown and then black. These colors mean that this person is very involved in the game. They write many story lines and participate in numerous RPs. Want to know more? Ask your mayor and town mentor (they are listed in the town hall).

You have enrolled in the new citizen program. Thank you very much. I surely hope that you are already learning your way around our fair city. Please be sure to check for people in the taverns after the daily reset. They will give you reputation points.
You'll also need to work for two days in the church. These are points that must be earned in the church.
Please reply to this e-mail and tell me when you have earned 5 reputation points and 60 pounds. Then I'll give you instructions on what is best to farm and how you can level.

Keep in touch.

Yay! Xenina does happy dance.
Here's how you get your cash. Buy 5 wood and list 4 for ____ and one for ____.
Then send me a letter to say that you listed them on the market and I'll buy them up.
Once you have your cash, you'll want to go into town and find the "Baliwick". Then click on "Meet the Count's First Secretary".
When asked what field you would like please choose wheat. There is a wheat tutorial here: http://renaissancekingdoms.wikia.com/wiki/Wheat
Thanks and congratulations.
~ Xenina, Mayor of Whithorn
________________________________________
I see that you have only just begun on your journey in the Kingdom. I certainly hope that you'll continue on your path. If you can you will attain some riches, adventures and many accomplishments.
To attain a boat loan, you should accomplish the following:
- Level 1
- Strength in the excess of 19
- Some kind of activity in the forums
I suggest you start off your journey by visiting the County's forum: Click Forum and Rules, Choose the first option, Find the word "Galloway"
I also suggest reading the Scottish forum called "Highland Halls"
You can also see our current Government and Wars in action in the National Assembly. Simply look for the Title: "National Assembly - Public Chambers". Here you can read all about different things our government is working on, but you can not post.
I certainly hope you'll come visit me in the tavern sometime. I've been a bit busy as of late because I am the new Duchess, but I will try to be in the taverns whenever I am able.
Please also keep in mind that Blissmaker is here to help you as the Town's Mentor. She can provide you with even more information.
Mayor and Duchess,
Xenina

Greetings my dear. A kindly farm worker has notified me that you hired him for only 12 pounds. As you know, minimum wage is 14 pounds. The law forbids you from hiring for any less than that. I urge you to mail Mr. ___ to make up for these 2 pounds.
Thank you for your attention.
Xenina
Mayor of Whithorn
________________________________________
Hey there,
I am obligated to give you some information and a warning about the economics of profit selling. It looks like you went to Wigtown and bought some of their cheap wood, then came here and resold it for a higher price (3.90).
This is not really a big deal, except that I keep buying it from you, which means that you purchased a large quantity in Wigtown. This is not really a good thing for Wigtown, as you are taking the profit out of their Town Hall's economic system.
No doubt that the mayor of Wigtown frowns on having you purchase more than 25 of any one item.
I am not going to prosecute you on this - this time, as neither of our markets (Wigtown or Whithorn) were severly damaged by one trip, but I just want to let you know that when you buy more than 25 of any one item you will want to contact the mayor. Otherwise their mayor
might want to prosecute you. I frown on market manipulation.
~ Xenina

Mentor Instructions:
Soon I'll issue you the NCP grant. Here are the full instructions. You'll want to save this in a wordpad or word document:
1) The grant will be in your person. Find it in "Me", "My character", "Your duties and responsibilities".
2) The grant will contain 100 corn. List about 50 on the market for 4.95 at a time.
3) Keep updated on your events. Once someone buys into the Program you will see "30-07-2009 17:40 : You have sold at Trancer 10 bags of corn for 4.95 pounds."
4) Click on the person's name (one on that person you can see if they are dead or in retreat, etc. . .) Go ahead and send them a mail anyway.
I would like for you to use this one:-->-->-->-->-->-->-->-->-->-->You have enrolled in the new citizen program. Thank you very much. I surely hope that you are already learning your way around our fair city. Please be sure to check for people in the taverns after the daily reset. They will give you reputation points.
You'll also need to work for two days in the church. These are points that must be earned in the church.
Once you have received 5 reputation points and you have 60 pounds, contact Xenina (the Mayor) by mail. Label the subject " $$$ time!! " This will make her respond ASAP. Tell her you have purchased 5 wood pieces and are ready for your payment. She will then give you full instructions.
Also, don't forget to read the Town Hall Message regularly. There is a lot of information in there. Should you have any other questions, please feel free to send me mail.
Keep in touch.
~ Blissmaker, Chief Mentor
5) Copy the person's name and post it in your NCP list inside the Mentor's Office thread.
6) When the grant is near empty, send me a mail (with the subject "NCP $$" or post in the forum that you'll need a new one soon. (I'll keep my eye out for that next day and issue you a new grant promptly. I'll also offer some corn for 4.95 from the Town Hall, so we don't lose anyone who would want to enroll.)
7) Once the grant is empty, it should have 495 pounds in it. If it does not, then you still have some corn on the market. Go to the market and click on the "Purchase and sale" tab. Cancel any corn that you have on the market before canceling the grant. This may take 10 minutes or so.
Of course if you have any questions, let me know.
Xenina
________________________________________
Also, to the Mentor:
Yep, as you can see in the list I put in the sticky there's always a guy who buys only 3 or some person who buys 5, but not 10. Most of these people die, so I don't really mind it too much.
I send them that little letter that I posted in the forum. It says "You have one week to buy the remaining 6 bags of corn". If you do buy them, you will be updated into a participant automatically." Then under that I put a line
- - - - - - < -- like this
and then I put the regular confirmation letter down below the line.
You'll want to return the grant when you have 20 or less corn (or right about that).
I'll put your name is as the Mentor now and I'll send you a grant tonight most likely (if I can get to it).
Xenina

Hi there!
I'm so glad that I've provided information on my blog. Here are answers to your questions. However, I will also soon be teaching an interactive class in politics. Perhaps you would like to take it. It will be on forum2 and will include some assignments using msn.
I WILL BE ANSWERING YOU IN GREEN.
In Hungary we are interested in a low-tax for security purposes (if someone would take over one of the town hall). We do not want to let anybody wage taxes.
1. If the mayor start the tax system when could someone change the rates first? Anytime if has Financial SP? Or after two weeks? When?
------
RATES CAN BE CHANGED AFTER 14 DAYS. I DO NOT SUGGEST THIS STRATEGY UNLESS YOU ARE ALMOST SURE THOSE CONQUERING WILL BE USING THE TAX. FINANCE POINTS CAN BE EXPENSIVE. IF YOU MUST WAGE A SECURITY TAX, YOU CAN PLACE .01 pence IN THE OLD VERSION OF RK.
SECURITY TAXES AREN'T ALL THAT GREAT BECAUSE THEY COST A LOT AND YOU CAN JUST TELL THE PEOPLE NOT TO PAY IT UNTIL A REAL MAYOR IS IN PLACE. (If they get late fees, the Mayor can pay them back later)
2. I see that one time the taxes can be waged for two weeks. So the minimum tax for one week is 0.25 pounds?
I BELIEVE IT CAN BE .01 BUT I CAN NOT TEST IT WITHOUT USING POINTS.
3. What does happen after two weeks if the mayor does not change anything?
THE SYSTEM ONLY TAXES ONCE. IT WILL NOT CONTINUE UNLESS IT IS WAGED AGAIN.
I hope that helps,
Xenina
END DOCUMENT
3) I also have a TM.txt, but you're most likely not going to need that.
Subject B) Reports:
I use excel documents for reports, but that's not all. I give each trader and/or person who wants one a grant sheet. (This sheet will give them the worth of the grant, so they can return it for more or even than what they got it at.)
Here is your homework. Take the following information and use this EXCEL report to give me your Town Hall's worth:
INVENTORY:

Once you have your cash, you'll want to go into town and find the "Baliwick". Then click on "Meet the Count's First Secretary".
When asked what field you would like please choose wheat. There is a wheat tutorial here: http://renaissancekingdoms.wikia.com/wiki/Wheat
Thanks and congratulations.
~ Xenina, Mayor of Whithorn

Hey there,
I am obligated to give you some information and a warning about the economics of profit selling.

Xenina

I hope that helps,
Xenina

3) I also have a TM.txt, but you're most likely not going to need that.

Seri's past is one she does not speak of too often. She grew up in Ayr, but her family was lost to her. She lived in Galloway for a while and even fell in love, but it was not to be and she moved away to escape him.
Once in Glasgow she fell into a state of confusion and self-doubt. She was just devastated and tried to run from it. She crawled into a bottle and drank the pain away.
After all the dust had settled she found herself a broken woman with a devoured life. Once she repented in the church, she resolved to try and change herself by becoming less selfish and smarter about her choices. Soon she was Chief Mentor of Kirkcudbright.
* . ¸.·¨)
(¸.·´ * (¸·¨¯`·* One day a very tall, dark stranger came into the tavern. He was intriguing and kept to himself, but Serendipity took interest in him. She found him brilliant, eloquent and articulate. Once he had her alone he managed to completely sweep her off her feet and though he was just "passing through", the Girvan resident spent every day with her and soon they were inseparable.
She found herself completely enchanted by this man who gave her no name to call him by. After several nights of tavern chats she finally kissed him and that night she found out his name: Julius.

He places his hand over hers and moves it to rest upon his chest "Each beat of my heart is a note, a note in my love song for you. Though it may be a simple song it's one I believe without a doubt, when I'm in your presence each beat fills me with an almost overwhelming sense of appreciation."

On this day, a number of years ago,
was born an angel - kindhearted and fair.
She was sent as a gift to the men below,
full of grace, charm, and heartfelt cheer.
As the years passed her beauty grew,
attracting the eye of many a gent.
Now she’s a young woman, honest and true, Her birth was truly a momentous event.
Her riches lie, not in beauty alone,
yet also in a truly knowledgeable mind.
Her strength stands her firm as stone,
Yet her passion leaves her caring and kind.
To the maiden with the heart of gold,
To the maiden with the flaxen hair.
To the maiden whose beauty grows not old, Whose worth is far above riches untold…
Happy Birthday!
Hope it’s a good one, Beautiful,

Husband of the most precious treasure

January 1458 ~ After Ayr is betrayed by Lance, Mercury (Fitz_), JuliusOctavius, Alessandra_oct, Hespera, Wallace and other loved ones, Sere loses her mind. If her family and friends wish her dead how can she live in this world? Her husband, Julius Ominus (the last Duke of Ayr) takes his own life as he feels just as responsible as she does. Those also blaming themselves are Kragomir and Wandress. Really no one is safe from regret when this tragedy hits. She helps organize the transport of hundreds of people to Girvan, Ireland and England. Some of her family, (Sharpe members Remmi, Andy, and Becki) go to Ireland, but she can't pull herself away from her home and she moves in a small cottage in Girvan. After that she collapses into depression. She locks herself away and mourns her husband, now that she is able. The grief is so great to have lost her County, her loved ones and her dear beloved Julius that she loses her unborn child in miscarriage.
* ~~ * She manages to hold onto life until May 1459, where her wounds are too deep to be mended. She jumps off of an ocean cliff outside the town of Girvan. Her body is never found.
In Real Life description
Serendipity is the effect by which one accidentally stumbles upon something fortunate, especially while looking for something unrelated. So, if you should happen upon me, don't be too surprised at your good luck. :)
While this life has ended I will continue to love RK. Serendipity will always be a part of me, even though I had to leave her behind.
Special thanks to the PB Julius_Ominus. You made this game worth playing. :)

Okay. I have changed the introduction message just a little bit. It was EXTREMELY long and drawn out.
Here is the letter that I send when I assign a new Chief Mentor:
I have placed you as Chief Mentor. I have also added you into the Town Council private forum thread. Access it in forum 2. Just search for "Whithorn Town Council".
CHORES:
Your job as Chief Mentor:
1) Check up on how many new people we receive every day.
2) Send letters to those who are 5-10 days old on a regular basis.
3) Answer letters that are sent to you.
4) Sit in the Town tavern as often as you can to answer questions of the newbies who pop in.

________________________________________________________________
Welcome, to Whithorn! I’ll be your guide. My name is Syseelia and I'm the Chief Mentor of this town. If you need ANY help, just click "reply" and send me an "in-game" letter. =]
== NOW, FIRST THING: Click on "Town" and then "Market" and purchase 10 bags of corn from the market at £4.95 each. This will enroll you in our NEW CITIZEN program. (You may receive a note from me or from the Mayor confirming that you are now in the program.)
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: When you are ready for level 1 (you have earned 5 reputation points & 65 pounds of cash), contact the Mayor and she will tell you how to get £55 CASH. This £55 will push you into Level 1 and the Mayor will give you advice on what kind of field you should choose.
This letter is LONG and I get that, BUT I suggest that you – SAVE IT - somewhere, as mail is deleted automatically after 2 weeks.
== NOW, YOUR TUTORIAL:
- LEVEL ZERO: This game is all about living day to day and working your way UP in the world. =) Level zero is all about having what it takes to move up. The key is to SAVE YOUR MONEY! Save your money and food and do not waste it (on clothes, food or anything else), or you can’t level as quickly as you should. Also, if you don’t know, ask! Ask the Chief Mentor or the Mayor. You are not “bothering” us.
== A DAY . . . in RK (Renaissance Kingdoms) is the 24 hour period between one reset and the next. Reset occurs each day at 2:00 GMT. (Time is posted on the church). For example, if you are in PST (-8 GMT), reset occurs from 7 – 8 pm at night.
== EATING:
You must eat every day to survive. Look at the top of your screen. Next to your money is your “status”. If you are “fit” you only need to eat one Hunger Point (that means 1 corn). If you are “exhausted” you need to eat two Hunger Points (two corns or one bread).
- FOOD: To eat click on “Me”, then “My inventory”. Click on the hand print to eat each item. Remember what I said above: if you are “fit”, you need ONLY eat one corn. (It will still say you are hungry, but ignore that.) To get more food on subsequent days will buy it either from the market or a tavern (which are individually owned and priced). Your money is only to be used to buy food (not wine, women or fancy clothes). Do not buy any food besides corn or bread until you level. DO NOT BUY BEER.
- DON’T GET DRUNK: To enter a tavern, simply click on the name of one. If you visit the taverns, do NOT buy beer at all(only richer people should ever buy beer) and do not allow anyone to buy you more than 5 drinks or you may get drunk. If you are too drunk you can’t work or eat.
== JOBS & REPUTATION:
The best time to get jobs is early in the new day, for as they say - the early bird gets the work! You have THREE places to get work:
1. The Mine: Click "Out of Town" and "Works". Then click on the mine. (You get 7.50 this reset and then 7.50 on Sunday.)
2. As a level 0, you have to work two days in the Church. This will give you 2 of your 5 required Reputation Points. (More info below)
3. Farm jobs are in the Town Hall: Click “Town Hall” and “Job offers”. You will see a job and the skills required. If it says “0 Intelligence Points” or “0 Strength Points” you can apply for it, even though you have no character statistics yet.
== YOUR TOWN:
Read your Town Hall’s Message and keep checking it. Don’t buy cheap items and then resell them higher. This is a prosecutable crime.
== LEVEL ONE:
Like I said above: “When you are ready for level 1 (you have earned 5 Reputation Points & £65 of cash), contact the Mayor and she will tell you how to get £55 from the Town Hall. This £55 will push you into Level 1 and the Mayor will give you advice on what kind of field you should choose and tell you how to level.” * Remember, you can ONLY get this £55 pounds if you are enrolled in the NEW CITIZEN program. *
== REPUTATION POINTS are points you give and get from other people. (You get two points per week that you can give out.) As said above, you will get 2 Reputation Points from the Church. However, you also need 3 Reputation Points from other players. This is part of the game. The best time to find people to trade Reputation Points with is on Sunday after people get paid and they get their 2 points to give out.
== FORUMS:
Visit the forums right away. Only worry about the top forum for now. Go into the Index and look for “Galloway” (that’s our County). Then look for “Whithorn”. That’s our town. There is both a County and a Town forum. Both are fun and will teach you a lot.
We hope you enjoy your life here in 1456 A.D. Whithorn! Please stay in touch.

How to Write a Town Hall Message
Click here to see all Mayoral Tutorials (RK)
Town Hall messages should have three sections:
1) Announcements (things you update on a daily/bi-weekly basis)
2) A menu of things discussed in the message
3) The actual items that you just said would be in the message
It helps to have a little intro about yourself before the message, so that new people know that the Mayor is active and changing the message regularly. You'll also want to use bullet-points under each heading for each piece of subject matter. Keep the whole of the letter as short as you can. Take out notes that become unnecessary later.
Here's my latest letter. Notice the subjects are divided up and each subject is bullet-pointed and kept short and to the point:
