Price Increase for Virtual Goods in the IMVU Catalog

We are raising prices for virtual goods today. I want to explain why we are raising prices.

To increase growth for IMVU and Creators. Higher prices means more credits for you and us.
To make pricing more fair. It is harder and more complex to create rooms and furniture products, so we want to ensure the reward for creating those products is higher.

How do we know that IMVU members will accept the higher prices? Because we did pricing tests with IMVU members, and these tests showed that demand for goods in the catalog will stay the same at these prices.

SUMMARY OF THE CHANGES:

Base price for rooms will increase to 500 credits, if the current price is less than 500.
Base price for furniture items will increase to 350 credits, if the current price is less than 350.
Base price for all other items will increase by 10%.
Creator profit for the first direct IMVU Inc. derivation will increase automatically by the same percentage as the base price increase for that product - as long as it is derivable.
Profits for other items in the derivation chain will stay the same, and Creators can adjust them to suit their needs as necessary.
Creator profit for items that are non-derivable will not change automatically even if they are direct derivations of IMVU Inc products.

We cannot instantly change all the prices in the catalog, but they will all change within the next 2 days starting now.

We have provided detailed examples of the price changes in our blog post. Please review and let us know if you have any questions.

These price changes will increase your business and profits, in most cases.

Pigs

A player can have up to four pigs in one ranch, and there are two options for feeding your pigs.
Pigs are fed as a group and can be either feed grass (for free), or corn, which you must buy from the market and place in your home inventory.
Each pig eats one bag of corn per day. If the pigs are fed grass, they grow at an average rate of 5/18 half-hundredweights (HHWs) per day, if fed with corn they grow at an average rate of 5/9 HHWs per day.
A pig has the following sizes and associated outputs of HHW:
Dying (0)
Bony (1)
Skinny (2)
Normal (3)
Fleshy (4)
Plump (5)
Fat (6)
Obese (7)
American Style (8 or more)
Animal Slaughtering
When a pig is intended to be slaughtered (regardless if it's hired or player labor) a knife will need to be in the player/rancher's home inventory. Knives have a 25% risk of breaking every time they’re used. If you have two pigs to be slaughtered on the same day (in different fields) you now have to have two knives to use them.
Akin to vegetable harvesting, there is no benefit to hiring skilled (stat) labor in slaughtering pigs. So, you will select intelligence of "0" and place the pay wage for your worker and click the "hire" button.
Advice and Accepted Strategies
Common strategies require about £120 to start with, not counting the cost of the field itself, nor the price of cultivating the field if it was not a pig farm to begin with. This £120 will mostly be used to buy pigs (3 pigs @ £25 each, you start out getting 1 pig for free), and some initial feed corn.
Raising pigs is a medium risk venture and it requires that a player be active daily in that the player's pigs require daily feeding. Additionally, there is a risk that a player's pigs may die even if fed properly. The risk is very low, but increases after day 9.
It is highly recommended that you always feed your pigs corn. A possible exception is if your pig ranch is a secondary field and the price of corn is high and the price of HHWs is low.
Note that since there is no benefit in having higher strength when slaughtering a pig, so you should only hire unstated workers atminimum wage.
Schedule One:
Day 0: buy first pig
Day 1: feed your pig, and then buy second pig
Day 2: feed your pigs, and then buy third pig
Day 3: feed your pigs, and then buy fourth pig
Day 4-9: feed your pigs
Day 10: feed your pigs and slaughter the first pig
Day 11: feed your pigs, slaughter the second pig and then buy a new “first” pig
Day 12: feed your pigs, slaughter the third pig and then buy a new “second” pig

How to update Lavabo

When voted or appointed as constable/capt for your town, you'll need to make sure and check for criminals in your town at the beginning of every day.

1) Go to http://tinyurl.com/lavabo Click on this symbol to read English:

2) Before using Lavabo for the first time you might have to configure your browser. In the left hand menu under the language is a link called F.A.Q. You'll see instructions for configuring your current browser in here.

3) Now that you are configured, to find the villagers in your town, look in the left hand gold menu and look for "Town Hall". Under the "Town Hall" heading you will see an option highlighted. It says "Villagers".
4) You'll need to "Take the Census" once a day. In this image you'll see the box that says "Take the census". The census takes about 5 minutes to load. Do not navigate away from the page or do anything while it's updating. If someone else has taken the census in the last 24 hours, it will say "The census has already been taken today. Only one census per day allowed."

5) Scroll down the page and look for anyone highlighted in pink. This means people have just come into town. At the very bottom of the page you'll see a bunch of Level o's. Those people were just born and they do not count as travelers.
6) If you see any criminals or people from other towns, contact the mayor and tell him/her the number of persons that are not citizens that are in your town.

Note: Sometimes criminals will move to a town ahead of time for an attack, so watch out for known criminal names and/or people that are part of a group. If you are unsure of criminals, give the list of names to your mayor or ask your mayor to check Lavabo. Most mayors know who the criminals are.

You can not see stealthed people. They are only viewable in traveler's visions.

Corn

General Remarks :

* Corn is one of the basic foodstuffs in the game. When you eat (use) corn, every bag of it helps you to reduce your hunger by one point (you need one or two points per day).

* The corn also is bought by the pig breeders to feed their pigs.

* You must have a corn bag in your property to sow. This means inside your home.

* How to do this: click on "Me", click "My inventory". Find the corn and click the button that has an arrow. This means transfer. It will have a photo of a house.

"Amount to be transferred". Click on "OK". It says, "You decide to leave this item at home."

The corn is now in your home and your worker can use it to plant your field.

How does it work ?

The corn grow in seven days/stages:
1) On the first day, it is necessary to plow (hire strength: 14 pounds for 0 Strength, 16 for 16 pounds). Do not forget to keep a bag in your home for the worker to sow seeds!

2) The corn grows for 5 days. (So, on days 2 - 6 , you do nothing.)

3) On the 7th day it is necessary to harvest (hire strength: 16 for 16 pounds).

The yields of a corn field

The yields are linked to the strength of the worker.
(sum of the strength points (SP) of the plow/sow + Harvest)

Total SP Number of bags
0 SP ---->> 19 bags
11 SP ---->> 20 bags
22 SP ---->> 21 bags
32 SP ---->> 22 bags

How it grows :
- At the beginning the corn field has a quality of 50%.
- After sowing, you can bring the quality to 55%, if the one that worked possesses 20 SP.
- After the harvest, you can bring the quality to 60%, always, if the one that worked possesses 20 SP or more.

Specific technical notes:
Or then 40 SP to one of the two works, and 0 SP to the other.

The total strength plow/sow + harvest cannot exceed 40 SP

Knowing that it needs 4 SP to increase the quality by 1%, the quality calculation is as following :

Quality = A/4 + B/4 + 50 (where A is the SP of the sower and B the SP of the harvester)

Prices & Hires

* Prices: This average price of a corn bag is between 2.15 pounds and 3.00 pounds.

* Hires: The farmer should hire for 19 strength if they can afford to hire for 19 pounds. You should hire when possible, as you earn a reputation point by hiring workers.

The calculation of the salaries for Ayr:

Results

You should yield 22 bags or more. Make sure to ALWAYS leave one in your home.

To remove the other 21 bags from your home to sell them, do this:
Click on My Home, then Your Home, then Your Property's Inventory. Then you Take with you what you want to sell. So, in this example 21 bags. This corn will appear in your inventory and now you can sell it.

And try to spread your sales in the whole week, thus the farmer will sell 1 to 2 bags a days to the minimum. Always keep a couple of bags in your inventory just in case.

Sheep

Sheep are a type of field, specifically a ranch. Up to four sheep are available for each ranch. Each sheep costs 35 pounds to purchase from the sheriff. You must have a knife in your home to shear or to kill them.

When nourished every day, sheep will maintain weight or improve it (an average of once every three days). Sheep ranchers are encouraged to join The Sheep's Owners and Weavers Guild (SOW).

The following are the available weights:
dying, bony, lean, normal, fleshy, plump, fat, obese, American-style. (They rarely get beyond normal by the way)

Every three days (or every day, or any day...) sheep can be sheared for wool. Every single day a sheep gains 0.5 of wool on their pelt. They can be slaughtered for hides at any point in their life, preferably near the end. Remember that if this is a second field, your yields will be lower (approximately 3/4 of a full yield).

Proposed sheep cycle one

Day 0: buy all sheep
Day 3: shear (get 6 balls of wool)
Day 6: shear (get 6 balls of wool)
Day 9: shear (get 6 balls of wool)
Day 11: kill one sheep
Day 12: shear (get 3-4 balls of wool)
Day 13: slaughter a surviving sheep (if there are any left. (an average of 3 hides))

How to Fish

1) It's a good gig. It is. You will get a number % for each click on the fishing map, so level zeros: you will not get a fish on the first day you fish. Still, it's great pay! For example, if you click on one spot today and get 80%, that amount will be saved in your account. The next day that you fish, you will only have to get 20% in order to get 100% to receive a fish. Voila! So, the only day that you would not get a fish is the very first day, but believe me, fishing does pay off.

2) The fishing map: Take a look at this page every day and look for a post that was made after reset:http://fishing.melyadon.info/?village=kirkcudbright

Look for a post by anyone that fished in Y=0 or Y=1. You can most likely only fish in the bottom row (Y=0), if you have no strength yet.

3) Once you have selected a box, "Fishing" will be your day's activity! If you are new, you will only get one chance to fish, so be careful, there is no coming back possible!

4) The more strength you have (meat you've eaten), the further out you can fish from the shore - out to row 6 if you have no boat. The more intelligence (fish) you have the more chances you get to fish.

*SP = Strength Point
~ 0 Strength = >You will fish in the first row. (It's labeled as Row 1)
~ 1 Strength => 1 line (So, you need 2 strength points to fish in row 2).

* IP => Intelligence Point (More chances to get a high yield. 5 points is good.)
~ 0 IP => 2 boxes
~ 5 IP => 3 boxes
~ 10 IP => 4 boxes
~ 15 IP => 5 boxes . . . and so on

5) You can see the positions (X, Y) in your web-browser's status bar by moving your mouse over the box. (Not in Chrome. I just count boxes over 0,1,2,3) At the end of the day, you fish on the last box on which you clicked (even if you have some move's points left). In this image you see x=7 & y=5 (8th box over and 6 rows up):

6) Fishing map: Use the fishing map (or forum posts in some cases) to see what else has been found that day, then choose the most productive box for your last turn. (The fishing page tells you how many tries you have left, i.e. 4/5 means you have one try left.)

7) After reset, you will get your fish (1-2 fish). Yes, some days you can get two or even three. Sell any fish for what the TOWN HALL MESSAGE SAYS. Sell it the very next day. Don't build up a collection please. Just list them when you get them and the mayor will buy them when he/she gets a chance.

8) So, if you can fish out to row 5, what is the max yield you can get? The answer is 99%. This chart will give you all max yields:

9) You must own a boat to fish beyond y=6 (row 7). Yield max is 132% at the 20th row (y=19). Boats are 85-100. You cannot sell the boat once it is placed on you (just like clothes). Remember you still need a lot of strength and intelligence to fish out away from shore, so don't buy a boat until it's worth your investment.

Vegetable

Vegetables (Veggies) are sown automatically and they grow by themselves. The only work which must be done on a vegetable farm is to harvest them, which is done every fifth day. So, the schedule looks like this:

Vegetable Farming Advice

There is no value in requiring stats at any level other than zero, so just put zero in the intelligence choice and hire for the minimum in your town.
Because vegetables are effectively the same as fruit, players are advised not to grow vegetables in a village with an orchard.
Check with your mayor if you are unsure what field to choose. Your mayor knows what the town needs.

* You'll throw out most backpack items.

* Look for stat items (items with a lot of statistical additions).

* To wear armor: Click character. Then profile. Click on the item in your backpack area.

* To bank: Click actions, then bank.

* To throw out items: You'll throw a lot of things away. Go into your backpack and find the manage button or you can bookmark this link.

PLAYING:

* Click World to play. Start in the Misty Mountains and look for little figures. These little people will give you quests.

* Take a note of where the quest dude is, so you can bring the quest items back to him specifically.

* Kill all the rats and native right offhand. The more experience you get, the faster you level. Don't attempt to kill snow leopards until you hit level 5 and have good armor.

Anyone may attend classes, but you MUST enroll (in the student registration section) in order to participate in class discussions. If you are not actively enrolled I ask that you not post.

I see that you have only just begun on your journey in the Kingdom. I certainly hope that you'll continue on your path. If you can you will attain some riches, adventures and many accomplishments.

To attain a boat loan, you should accomplish the following:

- Level 1
- Strength in the excess of 19
- Some kind of activity in the forums

I suggest you start off your journey by visiting the County's forum: Click Forum and Rules, Choose the first option, Find the word "Galloway"

I also suggest reading the Scottish forum called "Highland Halls"

You can also see our current Government and Wars in action in the National Assembly. Simply look for the Title: "National Assembly - Public Chambers". Here you can read all about different things our government is working on, but you can not post.

I certainly hope you'll come visit me in the tavern sometime. I've been a bit busy as of late because I am the new Duchess, but I will try to be in the taverns whenever I am able.

Hey there,

I am obligated to give you some information and a warning about the economics of profit selling. It looks like you went to Wigtown and bought some of their cheap wood, then came here and resold it for a higher price (3.90).

This is not really a big deal, except that I keep buying it from you, which means that you purchased a large quantity in Wigtown. This is not really a good thing for Wigtown, as you are taking the profit out of their Town Hall's economic system.

No doubt that the mayor of Wigtown frowns on having you purchase more than 25 of any one item.

I am not going to prosecute you on this - this time, as neither of our markets (Wigtown or Whithorn) were severly damaged by one trip, but I just want to let you know that when you buy more than 25 of any one item you will want to contact the mayor. Otherwise their mayor
might want to prosecute you. I frown on market manipulation.

Mentor Instructions:

Soon I'll issue you the NCP grant. Here are the full instructions. You'll want to save this in a wordpad or word document:

1) The grant will be in your person. Find it in "Me", "My character", "Your duties and responsibilities".

2) The grant will contain 100 corn. List about 50 on the market for 4.95 at a time.

3) Keep updated on your events. Once someone buys into the Program you will see "30-07-2009 17:40 : You have sold at Trancer 10 bags of corn for 4.95 pounds."

4) Click on the person's name (one on that person you can see if they are dead or in retreat, etc. . .) Go ahead and send them a mail anyway.

I would like for you to use this one:

5) Copy the person's name and post it in your NCP list inside the Mentor's Office thread.

6) When the grant is near empty, send me a mail (with the subject "NCP $$" or post in the forum that you'll need a new one soon. (I'll keep my eye out for that next day and issue you a new grant promptly. I'll also offer some corn for 4.95 from the Town Hall, so we don't lose anyone who would want to enroll.)

7) Once the grant is empty, it should have 495 pounds in it. If it does not, then you still have some corn on the market. Go to the market and click on the "Purchase and sale" tab. Cancel any corn that you have on the market before canceling the grant. This may take 10 minutes or so.

Yep, as you can see in the list I put in the sticky there's always a guy who buys only 3 or some person who buys 5, but not 10. Most of these people die, so I don't really mind it too much.

I send them that little letter that I posted in the forum. It says "You have one week to buy the remaining 6 bags of corn". If you do buy them, you will be updated into a participant automatically." Then under that I put a line

and then I put the regular confirmation letter down below the line.

You'll want to return the grant when you have 20 or less corn (or right about that).

I'm so glad that I've provided information on my blog. Here are answers to your questions. However, I will also soon be teaching an interactive class in politics. Perhaps you would like to take it. It will be on forum2 and will include some assignments using msn.

I WILL BE ANSWERING YOU IN GREEN.

In Hungary we are interested in a low-tax for security purposes (if someone would take over one of the town hall). We do not want to let anybody wage taxes.
1. If the mayor start the tax system when could someone change the rates first? Anytime if has Financial SP? Or after two weeks? When?
------> RATES CAN BE CHANGED AFTER 14 DAYS. I DO NOT SUGGEST THIS STRATEGY UNLESS YOU ARE ALMOST SURE THOSE CONQUERING WILL BE USING THE TAX. FINANCE POINTS CAN BE EXPENSIVE. IF YOU MUST WAGE A SECURITY TAX, YOU CAN PLACE .01 pence IN THE OLD VERSION OF RK.

SECURITY TAXES AREN'T ALL THAT GREAT BECAUSE THEY COST A LOT AND YOU CAN JUST TELL THE PEOPLE NOT TO PAY IT UNTIL A REAL MAYOR IS IN PLACE. (If they get late fees, the Mayor can pay them back later)

2. I see that one time the taxes can be waged for two weeks. So the minimum tax for one week is 0.25 pounds?
I BELIEVE IT CAN BE .01 BUT I CAN NOT TEST IT WITHOUT USING POINTS.

3. What does happen after two weeks if the mayor does not change anything?
THE SYSTEM ONLY TAXES ONCE. IT WILL NOT CONTINUE UNLESS IT IS WAGED AGAIN.

Broke Town Hall Mayoral Guide

So, your town is totally broke? And you're the Mayor? Well, this guide was written to help you deal with such a situation.

STEP 1) Become familiar with your Mayoral buttons.

a. Was there a revolt? Were you pillaged? Then take SCREENSHOTS of all of your events and everything in your office that is not good. This includes ranch keeping, assestment sheet and management of the autobuy prices. (Don't let the criminal person/s get away with this crime by not documenting the freshest evidence.)

b. Bad management? (Still take the screenshots of the Assestment sheet in your office. You might not want to use it if you know the former mayor, but you need to hold onto it. Trust me. Never dispose of evidence. Keep it in your RK folder and save it for a rainy day.)

STEP 2) Find Your Trade Minister (Go to Baliwick -- > Council)

. . . Send this to your Trade Minister:

a. how much cash you have in the hall.

b. your inventory list (include everything).

c. a request for a 1500 pound loan.

d. Tell them that you are trying to raise funds now.

STEP 3) Do you have wood in your inventory? If not, that is your first item of business. Get 20 wood and place them on your market for 50 pounds each. (If you have corn or milk, whatever . . . you can use them.)

a. Use the old version of RK to do this.

b. Post in the top of the Town Hall message:

"Welcome to _____! It is a difficult time for us now. Our Town Hall has been ravaged. I have placed 20 wood on the market for 50 pounds. Whoever buys them will be held up as Town Heroes. I have donated myself. Please join me in rebuilding our town.

- Your Evergrateful mayor,

______"

STEP 4) Check autobuys and ranch keeping in your Town Hall tools.

a. Autobuys should be off or below normal prices (like hhw should be under 15). If you can't change them it will say "You will be able to change the price again in 7 days" at the bottom of the page. This is how many days until you can change it.

b. Ranch keeping is also for 7 days. Just grit your teeth. There is nothing you can do until this time-frame is up.

Constable/Town Captain Safety Checks in Lavabo

When voted or appointed as constable/capt for your town, you'll need to make sure and check for criminals in your town at the beginning of every day.

1) Go to http://www.royaumedulavabo.com/index.php and log in as usual. You will see a menu on the left side.
2) To read it in English click on this symbol:
3) Before using Lavabo for the first time you will have to configure your browser. In the left hand menu under the language is a link called F.A.Q. You'll see instructions for configuring your current browser in here.
4) Now that you are configured, to find the villagers in your town, look in the left hand gold menu and look for "Town Hall". Under the "Town Hall" heading you will see an option highlighted. It says "Villagers".
5) You'll need to "Take the Census" once a day. In this image you'll see the box that says "Take the census". The census takes about 5 minutes to load. If someone else has taken the census in the last 24 hours, it will say "The census has already been taken today. Only one census per day allowed."

6) Scroll down the page and look for anyone highlighted in pink. This means people have just come into town. At the very bottom of the page you'll see a bunch of Level o's. Those people were just born and they do not count as travelers.
7) If you see any criminals or people from other towns, contact the mayor and tell him/her the number of persons that are not citizens that are in your town.

How to Wage Taxes in RK

Directions on how to wage taxes in Renaissance Kingdoms (version 3):
1) Go into your office
2) Click on "Manage the taxes"
You will see this:

3) Select an amount for each field. For example, if you want to bill all normal crop fields 8 pounds of tax per week (for the two week period), you will put in 1600 pence.

If you want to bill workshops 5 pounds per week, you will put in 1000 pence, because the computer will bill them 10 pounds and then nothing the next week.

Once you have all the numbers set, click on the "Save" button. Go back into your office. The numbers should still be how you set them.

Now to wage those taxes click on the "Raise taxes" button. You will get a drop down note that your taxes will be waged tomorrow (this means reset).

Here is the letter that I send when I assign a new Chief Mentor:

Your job as Chief Mentor:
1) Check up on how many new people we receive every day.
2) Send letters to those who are 5-10 days old on a regular basis.
3) Answer letters that are sent to you.
4) Sit in the Town tavern as often as you can to answer questions of the newbies who pop in.

Save your money and food and do not waste it (on clothes, food or anything else), or you can’t level as quickly as you should. Also, if you don’t know, ask! Ask the Chief Mentor or the Mayor. You are not “bothering” us.

== A DAY . . . in RK (Renaissance Kingdoms) is the 24 hour period between one reset and the next. Reset occurs each day at 2:00 GMT. (Time is posted on the church). For example, if you are in PST (-8 GMT), reset occurs from 7 – 8 pm at night.

== EATING:
You must eat every day to survive. Look at the top of your screen. Next to your money is your “status”. If you are “fit” you only need to eat one Hunger Point (that means 1 corn). If you are “exhausted” you need to eat two Hunger Points (two corns or one bread).

- FOOD: To eat click on “Me”, then “My inventory”. Click on the hand print to eat each item. Remember what I said above: if you are “fit”, you need ONLY eat one corn. (It will still say you are hungry, but ignore that.) To get more food on subsequent days will buy it either from the market or a tavern (which are individually owned and priced). Your money is only to be used to buy food (not wine, women or fancy clothes). Do not buy any food besides corn or bread until you level. DO NOT BUY BEER.

- DON’T GET DRUNK: To enter a tavern, simply click on the name of one. If you visit the taverns, do NOT buy beer at all(only richer people should ever buy beer) and do not allow anyone to buy you more than 5 drinks or you may get drunk. If you are too drunk you can’t work or eat.

== JOBS & REPUTATION:
The best time to get jobs is early in the new day, for as they say - the early bird gets the work! You have THREE places to get work:
1. The Mine: Click "Out of Town" and "Works". Then click on the mine. (You get 7.50 this reset and then 7.50 on Sunday.)
2. As a level 0, you have to work two days in the Church. This will give you 2 of your 5 required Reputation Points. (More info below)
3. Farm jobs are in the Town Hall: Click “Town Hall” and “Job offers”. You will see a job and the skills required. If it says “0 Intelligence Points” or “0 Strength Points” you can apply for it, even though you have no character statistics yet.

== YOUR TOWN:
Read your Town Hall’s Message and keep checking it. Don’t buy cheap items and then resell them higher. This is a prosecutable crime.

== LEVEL ONE:

How to Write a Town Hall Message

Town Hall messages should have three sections:
1) Announcements (things you update on a daily/bi-weekly basis)
2) A menu of things discussed in the message
3) The actual items that you just said would be in the message

It helps to have a little intro about yourself before the message, so that new people know that the Mayor is active and changing the message regularly. You'll also want to use bullet-points under each heading for each piece of subject matter. Keep the whole of the letter as short as you can. Take out notes that become unnecessary later.

Here's my latest letter. Notice the subjects are divided up and each subject is bullet-pointed and kept short and to the point:

Town Finances:The economy is better. At least it's flowing. Level two products have decreased, but with the rise in prices, you level twos should be able to keep on baking and creating products with decent profits. I'll continue to trade with the county and send another grant north.

With the income that we've created through grants and trades, I'll be able to help out a little more, buying your items and reselling them for that price plus .01.

Grant Tutorial

What is a Grant?
A grant is a Special Handbag that you carry in Renaissance Kingdoms. It can only be given by the Town Mayor or by the County Trade Minister. Once granted the grant can not be taken away from you. Only you can "cancel" and therefore send the grant back to the Mayor or TM.

Its purpose:
Grants are used to safeguard goods and money. (Once placed in a grant, money and goods are completely safe from any kind of theft. For this reason, it is perfect for traveling and trading.)

It can also be used to keep a separate bank account for buying and selling.

Find Your Grant:
Click on "Me" and then "Your duties and responsibilities" It will say "You are currently granted by the Town Hall of Whithorn - "See." Click on "See" to read your grant. The Mayor and/or Trade Minister may have placed instructions and an inventory list in the grant.

Records:
Before you use or touch your grant, make sure that the grant contains the items that are stated and/or that you have agreed upon. Record the contents in an excel or word document, so that you will know what to return when you are finished.

Put Your Stuff in the Grant:
If you don't need to place your personal items or money into the grant, then you will do nothing.

If you want to put things into it, then you start from the grant. It will contain at least 2 wood. Open an extra window that goes to the market. (Make sure that there is no other wood on the market for 15.95.) You will want to list the wood for 15.50-15.95 and then buy it with your own money. This means that instead of two wood, your grant now has 31.90 and nothing else.

Use this 31.90 to buy your own inventory items and wood (use normal prices, unless you don't mind that other people buy your meat at 15.00, etc.). (To place LOTS of money and/or goods into your grant, you will need to repeat the process MANY times.)

Buying From The Grant:
Right now your grant says, "The trades that you are currently doing are NOT executed under the terms of your grant." Once you click on the button "Switch", you will buy under the terms of the grant, meaning that the purchase will be debited to the grant account."

If the grant has money, then you can use this money to buy things. To BUY with the grant's money click on "Switch". The drop down will say, "The following transactions will be carried out under the terms of your grant". Now, anything you buy will go into the grant and the grant's money will be spent until you either:
1) Log out of RK
2) Click on "Switch" again

Returning the Grant:
When you want to return the grant you must be in the County (if the Trade Minister granted it) or the Town (if the Mayor granted it) where you received the grant. If it was a travel grant with 2 wood, you can probably keep it for a really long time and the Mayor or TM won't really mind. If it was a trading grant, you should ask the Mayor or TM how badly they need it back.

Open your word or excel document where you stored the information of what was in the grant when you got it. Do your best to sell expensive from your own inventory and buy cheap from the grant. This will place your personal money back into your personal inventory.

Try as best you can to even out the grant, so that it contains the same items and/or value that it had when you received it. If you traded for your town or County, you should be leaving any profit inside the grant. Usually trade grants make a good profit, so lots more value than you started with.

To cancel the grant and send back the entire purse full of money and/or items, just click on the word "Cancel" at the very bottom of your grant.

Cow Ranching Tutorial

Up to four cows are available for each ranch. Each cow costs 45 pounds to purchase from the Sheriff.

When nourished every day, cows should maintain weight or improve it, but as they get older their growth becomes unpredictable. Cows can be milked every three days and slaughtered at any time for their meat.

Cow Facts and Costs Sheet

1) Breeding: Some counties do not breed cows. Check with your Town Hall to see if your county has cows.

2) Costs: Cow ranching can be costly. I do not suggest it as a first or even second field. Also, you should really be able to remember to feed your cows EVERY day. If you do not, you will lose your profit and your ranch will actually COST you money to operate.

a. Here are items you'll need. (These are worst-case costs because buckets don't break with every single use and knives break 1/3 uses):
Cows ________ 4 X 45
Buckets ______ 4 X 38-43 pounds
Knives _______ 4 X 14-15 pounds
Milkers_______ 4 X 19-25 pounds (Milkers should have 20+ intelligence, so you should hire for more than 19)
Slaughterers__ 4 X 15-19 (If your cow does not HAVE to die today, you can hire for 15, but make sure you don't mess up your milking days.)
Suggested Investment Capital = 500 pounds.

c. Make sure you get milkings or slaughters when you should or you could lose capital or an animal.

d. Consider investing in your buckets and knives before purchasing your animals. If you can't find buckets and/or knives, place a note in the forum or ask the mayor for help.

3) Selling:

a. Milk will sell cheaper in fishing towns (both milk and fish give intelligence). As with anything else it is a free market item and varies in price a LOT.

b. HC prices should coordinate with HHW prices. An HC is double an HHW.

4) Yields:

You get about:
=> 8*4=32 bottles of milk
=> 3*4=12 hc (Your HC will vary greatly. Some cows will be skinny when slaughtered. Most will never get as fat as normal.)

Install Fonts in Vista

So, I tried to extract the fonts I downloaded straight into my C:\Windows\Fonts

Yeah. That didn't work. So, I extracted them into the download folder and tried to just copy and paste them over.

Then, I figured out that you must install each new font individually. To do this, right click on the font and click "install". It will magically appear in your font folder. Done! You don't need to find your C:\Windows\Fonts.

It took me a while, but I figured it out.

Newby Definitions:
Feed = Feeding is when a player runs out of the base and is killed over and over again. This feeds the other team and they will quickly gain an advantage over your team. You will lose quite badly.
Spawnkill = Killing players directly as they come into the game. They have no chance to defend themselves and while your kill count will increase, it is in essence cheating.
Killwhore = Killwhoring is the action of killing opposing team members over and over again, while not attempting to attack or take out their base. Players who do too much killwhoring quickly become unwelcome in the server.

Tremulous Installation Guide and Qkey / GUID

Hooray! Ok, I'm installing Tremulous on a new laptop and so I thought I would create a complete guide. Just give your friends the link to this page when they need help installing or adding a GUID.

1. Install Trem
2. Add the GUID to your Trem
3. Add a HUD
4. Move your qkey / GUID
5. Change your screen size (for widescreen laptops and so on)

1. Install Tremulous
a. Go to http://tremulous.net/files/
b. Choose Windows tremulous-1.1.0-installer.exe if you have a PC.
c. Look in your download window and double-click on "tremulous-1.1.0-installer.exe". If you don't have a download window, find where you downloaded the installer and double-click on it.
d. If your computer asks if this file is safe, say "allow".
e. Click "I agree", then "Next", then "Install".

f. Open Tremulous. I suggest getting the spider icon onto your desktop and then putting it in quick launch.

g. Before you do anything in the program print this page out and follow these instructions:

* Open Tremulous

* Once open use the ~ key in the upper left hand corner of the screen to open the menu.

* Type these things in and hit enter after each one:

/follow ,

/follownext .

/bind O say Hi everyone.

h. Type on the ~ to close the menu again. Now you can go into the game and look for servers to play on. First thing you need to do is click on Refresh List. This will make sure you download the list of active servers. Now click on Players twice. Find a server with 4-9 players. I suggest a well-know server. Here is a list of the best servers:

EBSF, N, DretchStorm, Skittles, A, Pure Tremulous, FuN, DRU, AA

i. Once in a server just touch the . key to follow players and watch how they play. This is the best way to learn. Then you can talk by touching the T key. If you say something like "I'm pretty new. Any tips would be appreciated." people might talk to you about the game. Clan sites are best for learning because they like to teach and recruit new people. EBSF is our clan, so that's the server you should look for. That is also where I will meet you 100% of the time. : )

2. Add the GUID (updated Trem exe)
a. Open your Trem folder. It should be here: C:\Program Files\Tremulous
b. Find the spider-looking icon (tremulous) and rename it: Trem.bak (This simply holds the regular trem in limbo, because we won't be using it.)
c. GO to http://trem.tjw.org/backport/.
d. Choose linux, mac or win32 (windows).
e. Click on "tremulous.exe". (You don't need the longer named one.)
f. It will begin to download automatically. Your computer may ask if you want to open or download the file and click ok or yes.
g. Right-click on the new tremulous.exe in your download window. Select "open containing folder". It's probably in a download folder (on my computer, it went to the c:\users\ame\downloads)
h. Put the folder next to your Trem folder and drag the NEW spider program (tremulous.exe) into the Trem folder.

3. What's a HUD? A H.U.D. is a heads-up display. Basically, it controls where and how your health, evos, and build points are displayed on the screen. There are several different types of HUDs. My favorite is Volt's. There are 8 different "look" options using Volt's version.

(Note: before installing a new HUD, you MUST uninstall and delete all traces of the old one. I also suggest having a copy of your base folder onhand in case your Trem reverts. [This has happened to me when visiting AA server])

a. Find a HUD that you like in the current HUD catalog. Here is the Nov' 08 catalog:

b. Create a new folder inside your Tremulous folder. Call it "myhudfiles"
c. Click on the word "download" under the HUD that you want and follow the creator's instructions.
d. The hud may download as a "zip" in your download folder.
e. Right-click on the zip file and click on "Extract all". Your computer will ask where you want to put the files. Find your "myhudfiles" folder inside your Tremulous folder and extract them into it. (You can use this myhudfiles folder later too, if you change HUDs.)
f. You may need to create a folder called "ui" inside your "base" folder, which is inside your "tremulous" folder. Follow the instructions in the creator's "readme". It will tell you where to place which files.
g. Make sure to "activate" your HUD by using the command the readme gives you, like: /exec ui/install.cfg
You will have to type or paste that into the Trem console.

{ NOTE: To open the console once inside the game, use the ~ key. A little dos menu will drop down for you to type into. Your first command should be: /follow . - Now whenever you hit the period key, you can follow the players in the game. To install other binds use /bind k say Hey everyone :) (this binds your K key) or /bind p say_team All team members report to base (this binds your P key and will only talk to team members). Only add binds from the main tremulous window, never inside a server or your program may get confused.

To talk in game hit the T key and to team speak hit the Y key. You can change these in your options, but I like using these keys. }

4. Copy your qkey / GUID!!
Yes. Serious instructions on how to copy your qkey over.

a. Find your qkey in your old computer:
(Enable showing of hidden files and folders (if you already haven't)
* C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Tremulous\base if you use vista
* C:\documents and settings\yourname\localsettings\application data\tremulous\base in XP
b. Copy the file called "qkey" onto a flash drive
c. Open the same folder in your new computer. Find the file called qkey in your NEW computer and delete it.
d. Take the flash drive and plug it into your new computer. Copy the file over into your new computer.
e. Start Tremulous and test. If you do not paste a qkey, your computer will generate a new GUID :)

5. Find your monitor's resolution and write it down.
Use these commands one at a time in the console:
/r_mode -1
/r_customwidth 1366
/r_customheight 768

/quit

This is a tutorial on how to be a dretch. I suggest you begin life as a dretch in Tremulous. Just don't die too much. You'll feed the opposing team too many credits and they'll come kill your base. You can also learn to play by being a granger (a building unit) and learn to make a base. Ask for permission and directions from your team mates.

When you are new you should take all orders from your teammates. They know how to play, so take their advice and be sure to ask for help. You'll find at least one or two people on each server who might even like to teach you.

Of course if you add me to MSN I would be happy to teach you when I have time. As my friend Victim says "Practice makes perfect". . . . well, no, but it does make you kick ass. ;)

Do you need a Town Council? Yes. If you want to be REALLY successful and you think you might have a hard time learning to run the office a Town Council is really helpful. Here is my Town Council list and job descriptions. This is my actual FORUM POST:

1) Keep the mayor in check and keep him/her apprised of issues
2) Learn about our economy and how to improve it
3) Receive a title and responsibilities that will enhance your RK experience

6) Vote on important issues and share your opinions

You are all welcome to become Town Council. It's not too much work. You are assigned a position and then you just fulfill the duties of that title. You'll just be helping me out and it might even be fun. ^ ^

* Runs the market and finances. Dabbles in every position and runs the council.
* Finalizes everything that is done, and puts the final decisions of the council into action.

* Assists mayor with trades and/or other business.

3. Spokesman:
* Reports the details of the town council's decisions and updates to the public of Whithorn. Nothing will be held secret from the citizens and that will be made clear through the Spokesperson.

4. Secretary of Council:
*Updates profession lists, works with mayor on statistics.
* Creates the polls in TC forum, keeps things organized with reports in TC forum. Can request things to be split, or locked.
* Makes sure promised activities are completed by each member, including the Mayor.

5. Minister of Morale:
* Makes sure the citizens of Whithorn are happy, and entertained. Gets involved in games, and gets the citizens active within the forums and taverns. Also endorses the forum whenever possible.
* Makes sure citizens are reading the Town Hall message, as many of their questions can be answered by it.
* Makes sure citizens that are of a low level and strength are fishing. Endorse and advertise the fishing map for Whithorn, located here:

6. Minister of Trade/ Trade Manager:
* Works directly with the mayor. Helps to compile lists of import/export needs of the town. You may travel or be required to find a traveler to deliver grants.

7. Minister of Economics:
* Watches the food (including stat food) and the needs of the citizens. Speaks with Bakers, Millers, and other professionals to get the market moving with a constant supply of the goods we need on a daily basis.

8. Minister of Law/ Market Manager:
* Makes sure law and town decrees are being enforced. Sends warnings to those violating laws. Acts as Public Prosecutor of Whithorn, and has the right to prosecute offenders by name of the town. (Must be rare and serious occasions as the prosecution takes up State points).

9. Minister of Key Resources:
* Makes sure the fishing market is moving, and makes sure citizens that are of a low level and strength are fishing. 5-15 fish should be on the market at all times as we are a fishing town.
* Also helps to import wood or other "key" items in times of need.
* Often works with the Trade Manager.

10. Minister of Public Funds:
* Manages the Loan Offices of the Town. Works with the mayor and other council members on what kind of loan types we should offer.
* Creates loan votes in the TC forum. Gives a full report and keep the Mayor on task regarding loans.

11. Chief Mentor:
* Uses and/or edit our awesome Chief Mentor letter and follows up with all newbies on it. Consults with mayor about welcoming and training newbies.
* Contacts new and week-old players to help them progress.

12. Mentor Apprentice:
*Assist chief mentor in contacting new players. Works under Chief Mentor to accomplish common goals.

13. Public Committee Members:
* The Public Committee makes sure to check the status of the citizens, and answer questions they may have.
* They help the TC cope with current events and/or give advice and information to the mayor and council.

Random Letters from RK Citizens

MARKET FRUSTRATION:

"What is up with the market?? I cannot sell my flour and it's listed at 13,45. What do I have to list it at for it to sell.... 10,00?? I am down to my last 49p and about ready to just die and start over or forget this game because the new format sucks! Just getting extremely frustrated with this game!"

Yes. The market is insane and it is very frustrating for us all. I do understand your predicament and I must say that if you can make more money by working on your field than making flour, then please work on your field. You can also consider fishing, but fish are worth less than 18. I also have to mention that there was a time period for several days that wheat was selling for 11 pounds. I am sorry if you missed that wheat. There was a lot of it though. That's why some flour is WAY under your prices.

However, since I have been in Whithorn, there has never been a day that level 2 work was guaranteed. Admtahoe first told me this when I arrived and I have tried to pass it on to others. We just have too many level twos here for anyone that is level 2 to profit well. Even when our market was better, it wasn't easy. For example, many bakers work only a few days a week baking bread. They can not afford to bake everyday. Still, you see all the bread we have. It's ridiculous.

If you DO want to make a nice profit, and this is simply an observation, some people are moving north to Ayr or Glasgow, where there is a lower population. There may be less people, but they have less goods and are in need of level 2 players. They want millers, bakers and the like. Some towns only have 4 level twos in their whole town. Their populations are about 100 people. So, they must have a traveler bring things in. We are a population of 380 with 83 level twos and 6 level threes. 83 level twos. Think about that. It's insane. We have 28 millers. That's a LOT of competition for you. It is.

Again, I am sorry and I understand your frustration. I have had trouble keeping up with the recommended prices too, as they are constantly changing and I try to make the wheat and flour prices connected when I post. I HATE changing recommended prices, as I want them to stay consistent. However, all I can do is try to sell all these goods outward and try to "bail us out" of the market that we are in.

I do want to mention that this market is no one's fault and things are tough everywhere right now. That's the reason why people like Admtahoe, Icy_Princess and Swampi are moving north. It's just easier to make money up there and it's very nice to travel around and actually make money trading up there.

No problem. I can answer your questions and YES, Muirkirk is a wonderful place to move. Lanark is a smaller town and they are both very nice with kind and helpful people.

1) If I move to another village, will I lose both my fields, or will these be transferred to the other village? Also is there an extra cost that I have to pay if I want to move?

You have to sell your fields here and then purchase new fields there in order to actually "move". You will want to take all money and everything out of your home before you leave. If you want to take your money securely I can give you a grant that you can use to hold your cash. You simply "cancel" it when you come back to Whit.

I think Muirkirk is a good choice no matter what your profession. However, moving you will lose your workshop in Whithorn and would have to buy a new workshop in the new town (500 pounds). You can also choose a new profession. So, you may want to simply "visit" Muirkirk for a while and not necessarily move, but it is up to you.

2) what is the risk of robbing along the way, and what can they take from me if they succeed. I don't have a lot of money, but I'm planning on taking my 30 flour and some food with me. (I probably will have to eat along the way won't I?)

The risk of robbery is medium to low right now. You can use lavabo to look ahead and see if there are any well-known thieves on the road, but you can still be robbed by a no-name person. They never get all your goods or cash, but usually most of your cash and about 75% of your goods. The safest way to travel is to find someone with high strength to travel with, so that you will win against any robbers that hit you. Mayor's Recession Help - Lesson 2

Ok, this tutorial is a step by step on how to deal with the recession by causing more of a recession in your town. If you DO NOT follow my advice, please remember that your Town Hall worth will continue to fall and an empty Town Hall can help no one. If you create excess funds, then that's ok, because you can give that money back to your townfolk in many different ways at a later time. Most mayors do NOT have a problem with having too much Town Hall worth.

How to keep prices cheap in your town:

1) First encourage LOW prices by placing suggested prices in your Town Hall message and mention this in your Mayor's Office forum thread. You are ALREADY in a recession. You can't change that. Lowering prices IS necessary in order to LIVE in a recession. This must be explained to the people.

2) Keep prices cheap:

3) So, what do you buy? Once people are selling for less, you have to buy correctly. Let's say I want 25 wheat to sell to the county. Here's what I would buy:
4 of the 11.40
6 of the 11.50
8 of the 11.70
7 of the 11.75

Why not buy all the 11.40? If you bought up all the wheat for 11.40 and 11.50, then people would start listing for 11.55 or 11.50 and BOOM, you just raised all the prices in your town. Every time you buy, you are shaping your market. Remember that.

4) Why you WANT to keep prices cheap: If you keep the price cheap, then people will continue to list for lower numbers.

5) How to explain: How do you explain to your citizens that you need to pay them EVEN LESS in order to help the town prosper? Here are some questions and answers for you and your citizens:

"How do we sell items out?"

Well, we send out grants via citizens that volunteer for it. They are usually Town Council Members. Cona brought back our first grant, which brought in some profit.

Then, in the last couple of days we sold items out to the County (via the County Faire). All towns are quite dependent on the County Trade Minister buying up our items (unless their mayor organizes his/her own trades). Until very recently, the county was not buying much of anything, but Sheridan has recently created two trades and has bought up a lot of our extra corn, wheat and fish. This allowed me to clear out the TH for the most part.

"What I see, is an overstocked market with lower and lower prices."

Right now the market is manageable. People are selling their items if they list for a good price.

What are the mayor's options as far as market manipulation?
1) Place price-caps or minimums: If the mayor were to artificially "stage" the market, there would be a major side effect. Prices would be pretty standard. Yes. However, people with lower charisma would never sell their items and when I say "never", I mean it. Higher charisma items always sell first, so my bread would probably sit forever, while someone like Hebrin would sell their bread pretty quickly. It would be quite unfair and I would never initiate such an unfair advantaged plan.

2) Set 20 wage prices for level twos: I have heard mention of this also. Again, the same result. It is artificially fixing the market. The results? People with lower charisma would never be able to sell their items and they would never get paid.

I believe a free-market is the best thing that we can do at this time.

"Can't the Mayor or whoever maybe once every two weeks send an email so EVERYONE knows what is happening here."

Like Cona said, it costs us "communication points" whenever the mayor sends out a "Town Announcement" and I prefer to save the TH cash for better things. If the mayor were to send out letters a lot, you would be looking at serious costs, as we'd have to hire a specific type of Level 3 State Trained to give us Communication Points.

"You guys want to run our town, then how about including those of us (I'm sure there are many) that don't understand or don't use the forum."

Well, I think I do a decent job of updating the TH msg. I change it every 2 - 5 days. Check it. You'll see that things are moved, changed or re-organized every few days. Current News is always given and I keep the "HOW TO HELP YOUR TOWN" section up to date. Is there an additional section that you think I should add? I have been told that most people don't want to read on and on about the town's affairs. In fact, the longer the note, the less people read the whole thing.

"Why encourage people to leave our town? It appears to me and please correct me if I am wrong, that the mayor is encouraging people to leave and then saying we are in need of Lords. Well sorry, why not try and keep the ones we have ?"

Well, it would be nice if the Lords that we have would stay and the non-Lords moved away, but that's usually not how it happens. Over the past few months, I have discovered how incredibly difficult it is to manage Whithorn. Many of the Level 2s are unhappy that they can not make a living here and they have explained their problems to me. Unfortunately, in RK, we have the ability to create infinite fields, but we are limited in size by having only one market in the town. This was okay in the past because we didn't have so many items on the market, but when the recession hit, it hit us very hard.

Our problems are circular and they all radiate from the fact that our town is over populated (around 400 people). We have about 85 level two people.

"Question: What I want to know is why aren't working professions encouraged?" and "Why are prices so low? I can't sell my stuff."

Because we have 17 bakers, when a well-populated RK town only needs 6-9 bakers.

For example, we have 28 millers here. There is no way that they will not have to fight to be competitive in a single market.

The recession is just not going to allow level twos to make an awesome income anymore. Now, if you were to live in Ayr, you would suffer from some of the same issues, BUT you would have a greater income because there are less bakers living there.

6) More recession answers:
Our issues are NOT authentic to our town. Every town in RK is overstocked right now. Most THs are suffering seriously. They are broke, trying to buy up their town's goods to help the people. I have done a good job in getting things sold before buying more here in Whithorn and I believe that is because of my experience.

Yes. Things are difficult here in Whithorn, but in some towns they have no veggies or no bread. I send letters out to mayors to ask trade and I often hear: "Please tell me what you want to bring. We are overstocked! PLEASE do not dump cheap goods on our market! We need our people to sell their goods."

So, we really should appreciate that our TH worth is pretty stable and that people CAN get jobs and can make a living by working jobs here. Honestly! We CAN fish here. We don't have to borrow axes from the TH just to work for the day. In other places, they are short on certain things or they don't have enough bakers . . . . and well they do not have the choices that you have, so please think about that also.

Renaissance Kingdoms Mayoral Tutuorial

This is a tutorial for the mayors of Renaissance Kingdoms. Renaissance Kingdoms is a highly complex online multi-player game that can give you hours of endless entertainment. Still, given how complex it is, it can be hard to know how to get started and harder still to get good at the game. However, it has something for everyone.

This tutorial was written with Whithorn in mind and was edited for Ayr town. Your town and county may require different prices. I also have a series posted in this University:

1) OLD VERSION:
You must use the old version of RK in order to use most of the Mayor tools listed here and to buy and/or sell off the County Fair. You also want to use the old version to sell things using "pence", that is selling wood at 4.01 and iron at 19.01 so that the people know it belongs to the town hall. 2) YOUR MAYORS TOOLS:
* Write the information message -Use this to update the Town's Message. Once changed it can not be put back, so I save the old version in a notepad document before I begin working on a new one.
* Change the autobuy prices -If you do use it just make sure that the autobuy prices are extremely low, so that you don't spend undue monies on it or bankrupt your town
* Buy for Town -This allows you to buy for the town. In a fish town buy fish 1-2 times a day. In a wood town buy wood once a day and then relist it for a higher price. This is how your town makes money. You also want to buy bread, corn and keep a few knives onhand. (If you can not buy you are out of Trading Points. See "civil servants" below.)
* Goods inventory -This is where you find ALL your goods. You can send them to the tavern, a grant and/or sell them on the market or the County Fair.
* Purchase and Sale orders - Shows you what the Town is currently selling.
* Resign -Do not click this. It will not ask you confirm. Upon your resignation the election will start over but no one will be mayor. Make sure that the guard is actively "defending the power". (instructions: http://tinyurl.com/DefendYourTown)
* Manage the militia -I like to have 2 for today, 1 for tomorrow and 2 the day after or 1 today, 0 tomorrow. That way it alternates between 1 and 2 and the criminals can't predict how many you will have. Bump it up to as much as 4 if you have more than 7 strangers/criminals in town. They need more than double your militia to overthrow you. For example if I have 2 defenders, they would need 5 to take the town. Save money by having volunteer defenders.
* Statistics - Tells you how many of what field . . etc. You can only read this in OLD version.
* Manage the taxes - If you DO wages tax it sucks up 5 of your Finance Points (see civil servants below). (Instructions: http://xenina.blogspot.com/2009/05/wagetax.html)
* Tax Fraud - List of taxes overdue. You can bring people up on fraud with the PP, but check if they have been in retreat and/or if they have problems first. Never insist on a tax payment when someone threatens to quit the game. Push RK by trying to help pay their late fee. The town gets all that money anyway.
* Assessment sheet - This is your "EVENTS" for the Town Hall. It only shows the last 8 sells, so that's why the Mentor has to sell the New Citizen corn from a grant if you do that program. They can actually keep track that way.
* Manage the ranch keeping - Do not click or use this. It deducts 200 pounds and will KEEP doing it.
* Manage the civil servants and the Town Hall administration - This is how you hire a Level 3 to give us Finance or State points. It will also tell you how many of what points you have.
* File a lawsuit - Uses Judicial points. I never use it. The PP should file all cases for you.
* Grant management - Make grants here. Instructions: http://tinyurl.com/RKgrants
* Assign a chief mentor - This changes who your mentor is and gives them an office.
* Manage the Town Hall's calendar - I hardly ever used. This uses points and notifies anyone who logs in that lives in your town on the day that you tell it to.
* Send a mail to all the town's citizens - This uses communication points, but is a good way to notify people of major changes if you are making a huge change. I ALWAYS use it before I tax, usually giving people 3-7 days notice. However, don't send out too many mails or people won't read them.

3) BUYING:
Buy Off Market
(Never buy up all of the cheapest priced goods, as this will raise the prices in your town and no one wants that. If you do buy things make sure to relist things with the prices you want your town to have.)

Bread = Buy bread from your bakers to encourage them to bake. The more you buy the more they will bake so don't buy too much. Use some bread to stock the Town Hall tavern and relist the rest. (Tavern should contain about 25-50 bread at any one time. It depends on how much bread is and how many bread are listed on the market.)

Corn, wheat and flour can all be purchased and resold to set town prices but you should only do that if your town has a lot of cash.

Fish = Not every County buys fish. Ask your TM.

Wood = Buy wood cheap and resell it to the County for 3.90 on the County Faire.

4) SELLING: Use the old version to sell.

Always sell for your town pence (both to the people and to the County Fair). Ours is .01 pence for the town of Whithorn. This pence system lets everyone knows that the good was listed by your town. Also, you won't buy your own products and waste trading points.

Sell in Tavern
Tavern Prices are variable, but I usually do .05-.10 over what the cheapest price on the market is at the time. Check back often to make sure you're not gonna lose any money.

Imports:
If you are granted by the County's Trade Minister you'll need to list the iron or wood on the market for the price told to. Then go to the Town Hall and switch to it's purse. Buy all the iron or wood. When you're done the grant should just contain cash. Ask the TM what he wants you to fill the grant with. He will want wheat, corn or other resources.

Examples:
Iron Ore = Jane, Buy this iron for 18.90 and then fill this grant up with wheat. Then a few corn.
Wood = Katie, Sell all this bread out. Then please buy your Town Hall's wood for 3.85 each.

Sell to Town

Wood = 4.01 (You'll want about 30-50 wood out at any one time and keep about 75 in the inventory. This does depend on how many bakers you have.)
Iron Ore = 19.01 (You'll want about 10 on the market and keep about 10 in your inventory)

5) Inventory VS. Market

Inventory of the Town's goods:
10 loaves of bread (keep a few onhand)
10 bags of corn (keep a few onhand, unless you have a New Citizen Program. . . then you might want to keep 60-70 corn onhand for that grant)
2 fish (don't buy unless you can profit)
5 pieces of meat (keep a few onhand)
10 bags of wheat (keep a few onhand)
7 bags of flour (keep a few onhand)
7 vegetables (don't buy unless you can profit pretty well)
75 wood bushels (Keep 40-60 on market)
16 ounces of iron ore (Sell 10 at a time on Town Market)
1 knife (save 1 in case someone needs it)

6) How to work/Daily chores
Every day look over your market. First check iron and wood to make sure there are enough out.
Next look at prices. Is anything ridiculously cheap that you could make money off of? If so you can buy some of it to export (on the County Fair) or you can just relist it at a slightly higher price plus .01.

7) Financial loss/gain
Your town will lose and gain profit based on what you buy and/or sell for. Please don’t make a huge spreadsheet with all the losses and gains. You’ll just give yourself a headache trying to figure it out. Simply make a financial report every week and then take a look at your overall worth:

Did you make money? Lose it?

Lord Income:
Remember that every town receives Lord income when Lords are in your town. Look at that number for the last week. Take note, so that you know what the average Lord income is. Use this number for your weekly spending amount. . . . meaning if you lost excessive monies on militia or on selling at a loss, the Lord income should be the amount you can afford to lose in order to stay even. Lord of the Robe make the town 4 pounds per day. Nobles of the Sword make the town 9 pounds per day, so encourage people to use two tokens whenever they Lord up.

Corruption:
If you gained or lost, adjust something in your buying plan to make up for it or consider raising taxes. The less people you have in town and the lower your town coffers the higher corruption fee your town pays.

8) Help me
What if we have a surplus of bread? I have 300 unsold bread and 200 on the market. Help!
Even with the best planning, issues always come up. Sometimes they come out of no where. First, count on your town folk to help you out in a crisis. Post a note in your town hall (and or the forums) that bread is at a surplus and you must sell it. Talk to your Trade Minister and/or county friends and look in the forums. Can anyone absorb this surplus bread? Are any other towns in need of it?

Can you afford to pay some money to get out of this situation? If so, ask for some advice on the matter.

Next lower the price in the town tavern and encourage other taverns to do the same. Changing prices here and there can help a lot. If you need more help look to the county again. A former Mayor or the TM may have great insight and/or be able to bail you out. Your town should never be punished because you were too proud to ask for help.

9) Why?
* Xenina, why do you say to keep some corn in the Town Hall?

Corn is a sensitive commodity. It can be bought up by travelers or pig ranchers. Therefore it is always a good idea to keep some held in your inventory, in case your town needs it. Your citizens need to eat it too. When this corn is needed and you list it on your own market, make sure to add your pence to the price, so that you don’t buy your own corn (i.e. 3.21 pounds)

* Why do I need to buy bread regularly? Why should I buy wheat?

You should buy some commodities that are produced from farmers and level two occupations. This is a CAREFUL game! Do not spend too much cash! You want to liquidate goods at every opportunity. Remember cash is better than goods.

The regular buying of things is simply to keep your economy flowing and/or make profit for town hall. If a wheat farmer doesn’t get paid for their wheat they can’t buy bread to eat. If bakers don’t get paid, they can’t buy flour. If the flour doesn’t sell then the millers won’t buy wheat. It is a cyclical dance of your town’s economy and it should be kept moving or your market can become stagnant.

A stagnant market will cause many problems. They can include higher prices, lower prices, instability, public unhappiness and so on. If your market keeps flowing, then these issues can often be avoided.

10)Town Council: If you have a town council, try to give them specific titles and job duties that will serve functions. For example, get a constable and have them check Lavabo for criminals daily. Have them notify you only if there is danger.

Make sure that they know to kick you in the butt when you need it. They are a great source of new ideas and they can even veto your ideas; pointing out the flaws in it that you didn’t see. They can also travel for grant trading and fill you in on certain issues. A town council should feel valued, but understand that they won’t be doing the actual tasks involved in managing the town.

11 ) Being a Good Mayor
What are the best qualities of a good mayor?

I believe that a good mayor cares most for the people in their town. A good mayor is adaptable to changes and situations. A good mayor tries to accentuate the positive and give praise when it is earned. A good mayor maintains a positive image and good reputation for both them self and their town. A good mayor is flexible. A good mayor does not hold grudges, especially if it is detrimental to trade.

If other mayors, former mayors or townsfolk have concerns you must do what you can to solve the problem. Being a mayor is not for the weak. You will encounter criticisms and many negatives. You will want to quit many times, but remember that you must send negatives up and positives down (just like a good manager in any occupation).

Cooperation: I believe that town and county cooperation is VERY important. As your market prices are affected by other local town and the local travelers you will notice that your commodities can quickly disappear if prices are too low or if your town has a rare item (such as wood). You must safeguard rare items by buying them up quickly and managing your market often. You must also make sure that your prices are comparable to local towns’ prices, so that your market is not pillaged for its cheap goods.

Whithorn Fishing Tutorial

How to Fish in Whithorn

1) It used to be the best paying gig in town. You will get a % for each try, so you may not get a fish on the first day. For example, if you click on one spot today and get 80%, that amount will be saved in your account. The next day that you fish, you will only have to get 20% in order to get 100% and receive a fish. Voila! So, the only day that you would not get a fish is the very first day, but believe me, fishing does pay off.

2) The fishing map: Take a look at this page every day and look for a post that was made after reset: http://fishing.melyadon.info/?village=whithorn
Look for a post by anyone that fished in Y=0 or Y=1. You can most likely only fish in the bottom row (Y=0), if you don't have a lot of strength yet.

3) Once you have selected a box, "Fishing" will be your day's activity! So be careful, there is no coming back possible!

4) The more strength you have (meat you've eaten), the further out you can fish from the shore - out to row 6 if you have no boat. The more intelligence (fish) you have the more chances you get to fish.

1 SP => 1 line (So, you need 2 strength points to fish in row 2).
IP => Intelligence Point (More chances to get a high yield. 5 points is good.)

0-4 IP => 2 boxes
5-9 IP => 3 boxes
10-14 IP => 4 boxes
15-19 IP => 5 boxes

5) You can see the positions (X, Y) in your web-browser's status bar by moving your mouse over the box. At the end of the day, you fish on the last box on which you clicked (even if you have some move's points left). In this image you see x=7 & y=5 (8th box over and 6 rows up):

6) Fishing map: use the fishing map to see what else has been found that day, then choose the most productive box for your last turn. (The fishing page tells you how many tries you have left, i.e. 4/5 means you have one try left.)

7) After reset, you will get your fish (1-2 fish). Yes, some days you can get two or even three. Sell any fish for what the TOWN HALL MESSAGE SAYS. Sell it the very next day. Don't build up a collection please. Just list them when you get them and the mayor will buy them when he/she gets a chance.

8) So, if you can fish out to row 5, what is the max yield you can get? The answer is 99%. This chart will give you all max yields:

9) You must own a boat to fish beyond y=6 (row 7). Yield max is 132% at the 20th row (y=19). Boats are around 110 pounds in Whithorn. You cannot sell the boat once it is placed in your home (just like clothes). Remember you still need a lot of strength and intelligence to fish out away from shore, so don't buy a boat until it's worth your investment.

IMVU Reaches 20 Million Users

Web-based virtual world IMVU has announced that it's passed the milestone of 20 million registered accounts, although that translates to 600,000 active monthly users. The company is also now earning $1 million a month in revenue, 90% of which comes from selling virtual currency, while 10% comes from embedded advertising. Around 1.7 million items have been created by users and uploaded to the IMVU community too.

According to GigaOM, around 100,000 IMVU users have registered to become content creators, although the actual number doing it - with tools like Maya and Blender - is in the tens of thousands. The world typically has 50,000-70,000 users online at once, of whom 60% are female, and 60% are US-based. However, the company isn’t yet profitable, although it has high hopes for selling prepaid currency cards in US retail chains like Target and Blockbuster - an initiative that kicks off in the next fortnight.

It has to be said though, IMVU has been going since 2004, and is still in beta. Shouldn’t it be ready for a proper commercial launch by now?

Nickelodeon Virtual Pets?

Nickelodeon's Kids and Family Group has released the latest comScore Media Metrix figures for the performance of its websites - judging by the scramble last time they did this, we expect Disney to hit back with its own press release imminently. Anyway, the Nick figures show good growth for its Neopets virtual world, which increased its unique visitors by 22% in June, while average time spent on site per user grew 19% to 173.6 minutes.

As I’ve said before, the latter ‘engagement’ stat is likely to become more and more important to the virtual worlds industry, with companies looking to shift away from pure number-of-users to metrics showing the stickiness of their worlds.

Nickelodeon says it’s now the top-ranked ‘kids and family online destination’ (this is the part Disney may disagree with), attracting 28.6 million unique visitors in June (5% up on May’s figures, and a 13% rise year-on-year).

The company is also benefitting from strong growth in its games sites, with AddictingGames attracting 10.7 million unique visitors in June who spent an average of 30.5 minutes on the site. Nickelodeon says it’s planning to add a massive 1,600 new games to its sites in the coming months, while also launching new virtual worlds Monkey World and World of Neopia (both working titles).

How to Farm Wheat

Wheat Facts

• Ask the Mayor of your town if there’s a need for wheat growers to avoid overproduction.

• Wheat is not a basic food. It’s purchased by a miller to make flour. It is also purchased by your Mayor to be sold to the County to breed animals.

• You need a wheat bag in your property inventory to sow your field.

Farming Wheat

The cycle for growing wheat takes 10 days.

1) On the first day it is necessary to plough (work related to strength). 2) On the second day one needs to sow (work related to intelligence).

Important: Don’t forget to place a wheat bag in your property to sow.

3) The wheat grows normally from the third day till the ninth day. 4) On the tenth day it is necessary to harvest (work related to strength).

Wheat Yield

• Conclusion: For your best value, it is best to hire 0 stat workers if you have a second field using wheat, as your minimum is 6 and your maximum is 7.

• All fields start with a quality of 50%.

• After the ploughing, you can raise the quality to 55% maximum, if the one who worked has at least 20 strength points.

• After the sowing, you can raise the quality to 60% maximum, if the one who worked has at least 20 intelligence points.

• After the harvest, you can raise the quality to 65% maximum, if the one who worked has at least 20 strength points.

• To end with a quality of 65%, you have to find 60 characteristics points, max. 40 SP and max. 20 IP

• The quality of the field is limited to 65%.

Price & Hiring

• Price: although free to choose, the price of wheat must respect a certain degree of honesty so consumer and producer can benefit both.

• Hiring: It is advised that producers who don’t have the right amount of strength and/or intelligence points, hire a more skilled worker on a first field. Moreover the employer will receive a reputation point every time he hires someone.

It is advised if you hire someone to work on your field (ploughing, sowing and harvest), that you ask for someone with 0, 10 or 20 points.

• Profits: Every 10 days you get, knowing that you need a wheat bag for the sowing, from 7 X 13 = 91 pounds to 9 X 13 = 117 pounds (or 65 pounds and 78 pounds for a second field)
